FYI - Film Your Issue 2007 Submission Microsite

FYI – Film Your Issue is inviting all global residents 16 to 25 to create 30-to-60 second “issue films” on issues they care about, to find out what’s on the minds of young Americans, and encourage them to add their voice to the public dialogue.

How It Works

Filmmakers will need to register before uploading films to the contest. Your film will be screened by FYI for basic copyright and broadcast standards before appearing in the gallery. Be sure to read and understand the Official Rules before submitting your film.

Submitting your film involves a few easy steps.

  1. Register

    • You will first need to register as a filmmaker on the main Film Your Issue website.

    • Then return to this site and click the Submit Your Film button above. You will need to register on the Jumpcut site that has been specially created for FYI 2007.

  2. Submit

    • Once you have registered on both sites, you will be able to upload your film. Or if you prefer, you can upload raw footage, images and audio, then edit it online using the Jumpcut editor.

    • When publishing your film on Jumpcut, remember to mark it as “Private – Not Remixable”. This will prevent others from remixing your video.

  3. View

    • Return to this site and select Watch Videos to view all submissions. As long as your submission meets the standards outlined in the Official Rules, it will be posted within 24 to 48 hours.

Important Notes

Submissions
You can submit as many films as you want to FYI 2007, but there is a 100 MB limit on individual files.

Videos may be submitted on this site in the Submit Your Film section. You can submit your videos beginning at Midnight Pacific Standard Time on February 1, 2007. Your video must be completed and submitted by 11:59:59 PM Pacific Standard Time on April 15, 2007.

Acceptible Formats
You can shoot your film in any format, but the final version that you upload to Jumpcut must be in one of the following formats: .mpg, .mp4, .mov, .flv, .avi, .wmv. Make sure you keep a high-quality master copy of your film. If you're selected as a semi-finalist, we may ask you to provide a version on DVD.

FYI Bumper
All submitted films must be tagged at the end with the FYI bumper. You may download the FYI bumper from the Clip Downloads page. If you are using Jumpcut to create your submission, follow these simple steps to attach the FYI Bbmper to the end of your film:
  1. While you are editing your film in the Jumpcut editor, go to the add tab and click on the "Choose a Set" drop down menu. If you have already joined the contest, you should see a set for "FYI Clips."

  2. Once you have clicked on "FYI Clips," you will see the FYI bumper in the set – drag and drop the bumper into the editing panel below at the end of the movie.
Official Rules
Read the Official Rules for complete information on how submitted films will be judged and what awards the winning filmmakers will receive.
