Here's How it Works.
1. Learn The Rules
A contest isn't a contest with out rules. Here's the basic gist of what you need to know to compete successfully in the Big Shot In Cannes contest. See the Official Rules for full details.
Your advertisement must be about a "green" issue. Some examples are Water Preservation and Conservation, Climate Change, Animal Protection, Desertification, and Renewable Energy. No swearing, no naked people, nothing too violent or offensive. Essentially, we’re looking for something smart, original and creative to represent the Yahoo! brand.
- You must be 21 years or older and a legal resident of the United States, India, United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Korea, Australia, France, Spain or Italy.
- Your video must be in English.
- You can shoot your video any way you like, but the final version must be in one of the following formats: .mpg, .mp4, .mov, .flv, .avi, .wmv.
- The maximum file size for video file(s) is 100 MB.
- You need to keep the video under 30 seconds*.
- Your video must be completed by 11:59:59 pm Pacific Time ("PT") on May 7, 2007
- Videos may be submitted on this site in the "Submit Your Ad" section. You can submit your video beginning 12:01 am PT on February 22, 2007
* Note to participants: The audio for your video may automatically fade out at the end of your Jumpcut movie submission. If you don't want this effect,go to http://help.jumpcut.com/2006/05/25/audio-fades-out-at-the-end-of-my-movie/ to learn more about how to eliminate it.
2. Make Your Video
Here's the deal. Think of a "green" cause that’s close to your heart. Maybe it’s about hybrid cars. Or energy-efficient light bulbs. Or protecting the Northern Spotted Owl. Just make an online ad that motivates people to improve the planet.
Shoot it. When you’re done shooting, you can upload your raw footage and edit it online. Or, if you have your own editing setup, you’re free to use that—whatever you prefer. In the end, it doesn’t matter how your video gets made, it just has to get made.
3. Upload Your Video
After you've created your "green" ad, you’ll want to upload your video to this site so it can have a chance to win. You can also upload raw footage of your video shoot and edit it online. Uploading is easy, but here are a few things to keep in mind.
You can submit as many as 10 entries. There is a 100 MB limit on individual files.
When publishing your video, remember to mark it as "Private – Not Remixable". This will prevent others from remixing your video.
Your video needs to be screened by the sponsor before it will show up in the gallery. As long as it meets the standards outlined in the official rules, it will be posted within a couple of days. Make sure you have read and understand the Official Rules – this is a contest, and the decisions of the judges are final.
Make sure you keep a master copy of your video.
You can also upload clips, images and audio and make your video online. Ready?
4. The Winner is...
