The Chiang Mai Spoken English project

Assignment 1
Spoken English Project, Chiang Mai, Thailand

Two women will go to Chiang Mai where their assignment will be to help school students aged five to 15 discover spoken English.

No teaching experience is required, but a love of kids and a big imagination is a must!

As an Involvement Volunteer you will teach in a local school and through games and activities, encourage the students to develop and practise their spoken English. You will help the other teachers with the daily life of the school, from running sports day to taking part in local ceremonies.

Your accommodation will be with a Thai family who are familiar with hosting Australians. They will be keen to have you become fully involved in family life.

At the weekends you will be able to explore the beautiful Chiang Mai region.

Melbourne woman and an Involvement Volunteer, Danella Chalmers, recently returned from Chiang Mai where she assisted Thai English teachers.

Danella said, “The local women ‘adopted’ me and were keen to show me everything about their culture and their way of life.

“Working with the children and helping them discover another language was an amazing and emotional experience.”

Danella has generously shared her photography of her trip with us.

Thank you, Danella – we love your pictures!
